U.S. Department of Transportation suspends 26 flights of 4 Chinese airlines

It is reported that last Thursday, the U.S. Department of Transportation issued a statement saying that it will suspend 26 flights of four Chinese airlines from the United States to China in response to the decision of Chinese authorities to suspend 26 flights of American airlines due to the flight circuit breaker mechanism.

This decision will affect 26 flights from Air China, China Southern, China Eastern and Xiamen Airlines from September 5 to September 28, including 19 flights from Los Angeles to China and 7 flights from New York to China.

According to Reuters, Liu Pengyu, a spokesman for the Chinese embassy in Washington, said the U.S. Department of Transportation's actions were "extremely irresponsible" and "suspended flights of Chinese airlines without any grounds." The embassy said China's COVID-19 circuit breaker measures are fair and transparent, apply to Chinese and foreign airlines, and comply with bilateral air transport agreements.

It is reported that as early as January this year, the U.S. Department of Transportation suspended 44 flights from the United States to China in response to China’s decision to suspend 44 flights of American airlines due to circuit breakers.

In addition, on August 23, the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that it would place seven Chinese entities on an export control list and severely restrict their access to goods, software, and technology subject to the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), effective August 24. These 7 entities are mainly related to aerospace.

China firmly opposes this. What the U.S. has done has seriously damaged the normal economic and trade exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and U.S. companies, seriously undermined market rules and the international economic and trade order, and seriously threatened the stability of the global industrial chain and supply chain. The US side should immediately stop its wrong practice. China will take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and institutions. "
