Ports of Klaipeda and Hamburg strengthen cooperation

At the transport logistic trade fair in Munich, Algis Latakas, general director of the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority signed the declaration of accession to Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V (HHM).

Latakas commented that joining Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V. is a continuation of the cooperation agreement signed between the ports of Klaipeda and Hamburg during the visit of the Minister of Transport and Communications to Germany last May.

Marina Basso Michael, regional director Europe at HHM, commented, "The deepened cooperation between the Port of Klaipeda and HHM also creates added value for our member ports in Lübeck and Kiel. There have already been many connections between them and Klaipeda for years."

The ties between Lithuania and the port of Hamburg are strong, as the major German port is connected to Lithuania by eight container liner services, all of which call at the port of Klaipeda.

In particular, container ships with slot capacities between 870 and 1,400 TEUs are deployed in the routes. The transit time between Hamburg and Lithuania is usually two to four days, depending on the direction and number of further ports.
