China's manufacturing PMI came in at 49.2 per cent, below the tipping point

On October 31, China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing and Service Industry Survey Center of National Bureau of Statistics released purchasing managers' survey, China's composite PMI output index in October was 49.0%, down 1.9 percentage points from the previous month, falling below the critical point. The manufacturing PMI fell to 49.2 percent, down 0.9 percentage points from the previous month and below the critical point. The non-manufacturing business activity index fell 1.9 percentage points to 48.7 percent.

 

Spain's economy grew 0.2 per cent in the third quarter from the previous quarter

Spain's gross domestic product grew 0.2% quarter-on-quarter in the third quarter, down from 1.5% in the second, according to the national statistics office. Year-on-year growth was 3.8 per cent, down from 6.8 per cent in the second quarter.

 

Dockers at 23 Chilean ports have gone on strike

About 6,500 dockers affiliated with port unions staged a 48-hour strike at 23 ports in Chile, South America, to demand an agreement with the government to improve working conditions. The dockers are protesting the lack of progress in contract negotiations with the Chilean government.

 

China's port cargo throughput achieved positive growth in the third quarter

China's ports handled 11.55 billion tons of cargo in the first three quarters, up 0.1 percent year on year, according to the Ministry of Transport. In the third quarter, growth was 1.8%, compared with 2.9% in the second quarter. The container throughput reached 220 million TEUs, up by 4.0% year on year.
