According to CCTV News on June 28, local time on June 27, a gas storage tank containing toxic gas leaked at the port of Aqaba in southern Jordan. So far, 14 people have been killed and 265 injured in the accident.

According to the report, the port crane malfunctioned when loading the tank container containing chemical gas, causing the container to fall and explode, causing chemical gas leakage. At present, emergency personnel have rushed to the scene, and the cause of the accident is still under further investigation.

Surveillance video footage from the scene showed that after a container was hoisted into the air, it suddenly fell to the deck of a ship and exploded. In an instant, a large piece of yellow gas spread out, and people ran to safety. According to local media, 199 injured are still being treated in local hospitals for exposure to the chemical, some of them in critical condition.

The Jordanian port of Aqaba is located at the northeastern tip of the Red Sea and is the only seaport in Jordan. Operations at the port were initially suspended after the accident, but later on the 27th, port officials said port operations were continuing and they had ordered ships operating at the port to stay away from the accident area.

The nearest residential area is 25 kilometers away, and local health officials are reminding people to stay indoors and close doors and windows, the report said.

The Chinese Embassy in Jordan issued a consular safety reminder on the 27th, reminding Chinese citizens in the southern Jordanian port city of Aqaba to pay attention to safety. Avoid going out, stay at home and close doors and windows as much as possible to ensure your own safety. At the same time, please pay attention to the latest security reminders of the embassy for Chinese citizens, and avoid going to Aqaba in the near future.
