Global smartphone shipments fell 11 percent from a year earlier

According to a report by market research firm TechInsights, global smartphone shipments (wholesale) and sales (retail) fell by 11% and 5% respectively in February 2023 from a year earlier. In terms of brand, Samsung regained the top spot in both shipments and sales.

 

Psa's container volumes fell 0.7 per cent

Singapore's PSA International recently released its 2022 full-year results. The Group handled a total of 90.9 million equivalent units (TEUs) of containers at ports around the world, down 0.7% from the previous year. The group handled 37 million TEUs of containers in Singapore last year, down 0.7 per cent from the previous year. The group handled 53.9 million TEUs of containers at terminals outside Singapore last year, down 0.7 per cent from the previous year.

 

Container throughput at the Port of Los Angeles in February was down 43.13%

The Port of Los Angeles handled 487,800 TEUs of containers in February, down 43.13% from a year earlier. Imports fell 41.19 percent to 249,400 TEU, while exports fell 13.66 percent to 82,400 TEU. In addition, the number of empty containers passing through the Port of Los Angeles fell 53.87 percent to 15600 TEU.

 

ONE reorders 10 container ships

Japans liner container operator Ocean Network Shipping (ONE) has placed an order for 10 13,700TEu container ships at an unnamed shipyard for delivery in 2025 and 2026. The new ships will be prepared for methanol and ammonia fuel and equipped with bow covers and other energy saving technologies, and discussions have been held with shipyards and equipment manufacturers to implement on-board carbon capture and storage at delivery.
